Napa DUI Lawyer | DUI Attorney - Thurlow & Thurlow

Napa DUI Attorney Martina Thurlow had her first experiences with DUI litigation from the point of view of a prosecutor, preparing witnesses, presenting evidence, persuading juries, arguing motions and negotiating with judges and DUI defendants.  Since then, Ms. Thurlow has represented DUI defendants, not only in the criminal side of their cases, but also in the defense of their drivers licenses with the DMV.

“It helps to know the point of view of the prosecutor,” Ms. Thurlow recently said.  “Prosecutors have certain concerns when it comes to reducing or dismissing cases, or even to give a lenient sentence to a defendant.  My experience as a former prosecutor has clued me in to what prosecutors need to see before giving our client the case results they want.”

Ms. Thurlow also works with the DMV so that her clients are able to get their drivers licenses back as soon as possible, or at least to get a restricted drivers license so that her client can go to work.  “Having our clients able to go to work is very important,” she added.

Before her experience as a prosecutor, Ms. Thurlow obtained her Juris Doctor degree from Santa Clara University School of Law, where she obtained honors on the Moot Court Program.  As a law student she interned with the prestigious law firm of White & Case, and as an undergraduate student she interned with the late Senator John Heinz in Washington, DC.

Napa DUI Attorney Tom Thurlow also began his DUI litigation experience from the point of view of a prosecutor.  His prosecutorial experience included not only representing the state in trials, but also in complex motions and appeals.  Now he brings his experience to the defense side of the DUI world.  “An attorney with experience working as a prosecutor has the advantage of knowing how the prosecutors think, how they work and how they bluff,” Thurlow said.  “The typical DUI prosecutor either knows the weaknesses in their case and they bluff, or they don’t know the weaknesses in their case, and they need to be informed.  And in cases where the prosecutor has a strong case, we need to convince them that it is safe to give our client a break.”

Before his experience as a prosecutor, Mr. Thurlow obtained his Juris Doctor degree from Santa Clara University School of Law, where he served as editor of the Santa Clara Law Review.  As a law student he interned with the prestigious law firm of Drew & Napier.  Mr. Thurlow got his undergraduate degree at University of California, Santa Barbara, where he was awarded Dean’s List Honors.

As Napa DUI defense attorneys, both Tom and Martina Thurlow understand the importance of treating their clients with respect, and keeping the stress levels of their clients as low as possible.  Many times, by the time DUI defendants contact Thurlow & Thurlow, they have contacted many other Napa DUI attorneys who have scared or insulted the defendant.  “Keeping our clients calm is a top priority with us,” Ms. Thurlow said.  “That’s the main reason why we try to handle our clients’ cases without them ever having to go to court.”

“It’s a pet peeve of ours,” Mr. Thurlow agreed.  “DUI defendants need help, not a lecture from some attorney they call.  When people arrested for DUI are ready to hire attorneys who respect them and keep them calm, while getting positive results, they hire Thurlow & Thurlow.”

How To Get Sober Cover Kindle JPEGAlcohol addiction and binge drinking directly affect at least 20 million people nationwide. Most alcoholics think about a recovery from alcohol addiction, and getting sober and on-going sobriety as unattainable. Families and friends of alcoholics are also affected. The life of an alcoholic is pretty miserable, leading to loss of jobs, careers, relationships, marriages, and even leading to arrests for different criminal charges, many times driving under the influence.

In this book that guides alcoholics from booze to recovery, Napa DUI attorney Tom Thurlow shares his knowledge and advice obtained after years of experience as an attorney of people accused of alcohol-related criminal charges, especially drunk driving. He emphasizes the urgency of recovery, and how alcoholism is a disease in many ways like other diseases, but at the same time different from other diseases. Thurlow points the way to various out-patient and residential recovery programs, especially Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and its twelve-step programs, that he has seen work.

Anyone who has an addiction to alcohol needs help, and this book gives advice on where to go, what to look for, and how to avoid various pitfalls along the way. The goal is a life free from the problems of alcohol addiction, but still aware of the possibility of relapse, and the vulnerabilities of a person with a weakness for alcohol. This helpful and informative book should be a part of the library of anyone addressing the issue of alcohol addiction, whether for themselves or for a friend or loved one.
